I have a wooden (Not sure of wood type if it matters) dining room table with a dark, varnished finish. I have noticed some milky white looking stains on it about a couple of inches across. I suspect it is from a hot bowl or pot placed on it but I'm not sure. Is there a way of getting rid of this stain?

Jason:
The finish is probably lacquer, and the whit emarks can be removed as follows:
Make a paste of baking soda and water adn rub the affected areas until the white marks disappear.
Clean any residue (baking soda) off the table.
Go over the entire top with Turtle Wax polishing Compound and Scratch Remover to restore an even sheen.
