Doors and Windows - Sealing a single pane window

I have a house full of single pane windows. I recently read about sealing them. What is the best and cost effective methold. I've been told to staple up clear visqueen inside the window seal. This sure seems like it would trap the moisture and rot out the sill. I assume if I went up close to the window frame the moisture would be less. I've seen some styles where a hair dryer is used. Please advise on what works best for min cost. Hopefully the two worst windows will be replaced next year.

The clear shrink wrap kits are probably best as a tempory solution during the winter. The sill will not rot that fast, and it would take a lot of moisture to be a big problem. That would be visible so you could take care it of quickly.

The kits Bill mentioned are the hair dryer type. Any moisture in the air when you install them will be lost to the outside through the air leakage. It is the flow of warm moist inside air that deposits all of the condensation on the windows.

You can install it around the window trim as that will block more of the air leaks. It uses a double sided tape, sometimes a pain to get to stick well, but it does air seal better than staples.

As for benefits, the air sealing and extra layer will pay for itself several times over through the winter.
