I’m installing a 7/16" Mahogany floor and my staples are kinking up a lot. I’m using 1/4" x 1-1/2" Galvanized staples. A friend of mine told me that non-galvanized staples are harder. Is this true and would it hurt that they are not galvanized? Thanks for any advise.

What are you shooting the staples with? Won't hurt if they are galvanized or not. Never heard of the strength difference in galv or non-galv.

Doesn't 1 1/2" seem like a lot of staple for a 1/2" floor?

Im using a High Pro flooring stapler and Im using 1-1/2" because Lowes only had 1" or 1-1/2" and the directions on the flooring say to use 1-1/8" min. I have found some non galvanized 1-1/4". Would that work better?

The model # is AS-4090. I have it set at 70 psi.

What pressure does the gun specify. I believe 90 psi may do the trick, if it will allow it.

The manual says to set it at 70 psi. I bumped it up to about 85 then 80 psi but it was busting the tongue of the flooring.

Hasn't been asked yet, and may not matter.....what kind of subfloor and underlay are you attaching to?

Sub floor is 3/4" OSB. I tried some 1-1/4 staples and that seems to have fixed the problem. I'm not sure why but it did. It could be because it is a different brand. Anyway it works so thats what I'm going to stick with. Thanks for everyones help.

Maybe you were hitting a floor joist with those longer staples......
