I had a sofa upholstered in a chenille fabric & it began to ravel right away with light use. Now, after only a couple of years, it must be recovered. I have noticed that a lot of the sofas on the market are chenille covered. Does it all ravel or did I buy a bad fabric?

Contact upholstery manufacturer, upholtery, and supplier re: warranties. While chenille appears to be a recent fad, I never understood why based on my old chenille bedspread from childhood that eventully lost all the chenille tufts. Some upholstery fabrics are simply more fragile than others and do not hold up to wear and tear and cleaning.

You need to buy upholstery chenille, which will hold up. There are different kinds of chenille. You can use a regular chenille, but it would need to be stabilized first, with some sort of backing, and all edges need to be serged to prevent the ravelling.
