I have a smoke alarm in our master bedroom that started chirping at 5AM this morning. It, along with all the rest, has a battery, which I replaced last month, and again today just to "be sure" the batteries were good, they are also hard wired together, 6 total detectors. These were installed when the house was built 4 years ago.

Replaced all the batteries, still chirps. Turned off the circuit breaker, they still chirp.Took the chirping detector and swapped it with the one in the basement that did not chirp, THAT one chirps when plugged into the master bedroom. Unplugged and removed the detector head and left it out, thinking that would silence it. Nope! Thing chirps without the detector head plugged in! :madhell:

Suggestions or comments? How can I silence it until Monday. the maufacturer, First Alert, has a store/factory not to far from me and a customer service 800 number there.

Check your wiring where the smoke alarm harness connects to the electrical power. Sometimes one of the leads escapes the wirenuts, and the detector doesn't actually get power.

Yes, most such heads will chirp for a few minutes once battery and primary power is removed.

Some of the FA detector models also chirp when they are dirty or the sensing chamber element is starting to break down.

Go to the First Alert site. They have manuals for most of their relatively recent models. First Alert Smoke Alarms, Carbon Monoxide Detectors, Fire Extinguishers & Home Safety Products. (http://www.firstalert.com/)

If the temperature in the rooms went below 50 deg. the alarms will start chirping.. have a look at the lowest temp. allowed by the detector

I had one that was doing the same thing: chirping and battery was good. Come to find out that one of the wire nuts had "untwisted" and the wires weren't getting good contact. I tightened them up and that fixed it. Hope this helps.
