Are you buying a product produced by a reputable manufacturer? The US market has been flooded with bamboo products, many of which contain volatile organic compounds that off gas odors in the home despite green claims for environmental friendliness. This is not good for folks with allergies, respiratory problems, the elderly and young children.

Other factors to consider: Where are you installing it? Can you maintain year round humidity control? Will it be exposed to moisture? Type of subfloor?

There are always price considerations. It's best to buy from a major manufacturer with good, best, better levels of quality, warranty, and price and buy the best your budget allows.

Pay attention to finish and finish warranty. Better finishes have a warranty and contain additives like aluminum oxide for better wearability. You can also buy unfinished and finish yourself.

Bamboo can have vertical or horizontal strands. What you choose depends on what appeals to you. You also need to determine which installation is best for you and your home: floating, nail/staple/glue. You need to select a color that complements your decor.

Read installation instructions prior to purchase to see if that is something you can do DIY. Even if you hire someone to install bamboo flooring, you ned to monitor installaton despite how many years installer says he has been in the business.
