Doors and Windows - inside leaks around window frame

We just received a whole lot of snow and now as the snow has started melting a bit we are getting a few little leaks around the top of the window frame - water dribbling in from several spots. Is it possible to put some kind of clear sealant or water proofing "goo" around the inside of the window frame to stop the leaks or is this more of a problem than I want it to be?

Hi ischneid and welcome to the forum, Your concerns may be correct. Since snow rarely accumulates at the top of your window, the water is most likely coming from above the window.

One, snow can blow up into the soffit through the vents, rare but it happens.

Two, you can have ice building up under the snow that is backing up the water so it finds it's way under the shingles.

Three, you can have excess moist air leaking into the attic, condensing out and freezing on the underside of the roof, and then melting with the warmer weather and running down to the lower area of the roof and leaking down through the walls.

Check your attic for any moisture on the roof sheathing.

Check outside for and ice build-up on the eves.

I would guess #3 or #2 in that order.
