Master code + [8] + user no. + new user’s code

Master code + [8] + 05 + new user’s code

The biggest trick is that you cannot hesitate more than a couple of seconds between keystrokes or the system kicks back out of code programming and it doesn't take.

Write it out so that you can key it in smoothly.

looking at the keypad "disarmed ready to arm"

That's the keystroke sequence: [master code] + 8 + [2digit user #] + [new 4 digit code]. That's it. No voodoo, no rubbing blue mud into your belly button.

As far as I know, there is no way to disable the ability of the master code to set sub codes. See your user manual.
