Electronic Alarms and Home Security Devices - Battery Replacement sounds alarm

I am trying to replace the batteries in my Ademco 5806 smoke detector/transmitter. Once I connect the batteries to the connectors the smoke detector siren goes off.

Since I have not been able to reinstall this smoke detector because of the issue above, I am receiving a chirp at 4:00am every morning from my keypad, which does go off once a push any key on the keypad.

My security system is a Ademco Vista 10.

What could be the problem and how do I fix it?

The alarm is not monitored and I would really prefer just to shut the whole thing off.

Some of these units will do this on a battery change. Grit your teeth, change the battery then enter the normal reset command (code + 1 until everything resets) It will need to be back on it's base so that all of the tamper switches are in their normal position.
