if we have to replce any of the sheathing for new cons window,outdoor plywood,is it most likely 1/2" or 5/8" ? what do most newer homes in the north east use?

Usually 1/2", OSB in newer construction, plywood or exterior gypsum in older. But why would have to replace some??? Changing the opening size???
