I have a hollow-core bifold door and the handle popped off, stripping the screw holes. I guess I could use a slightly longer screw to put the handle back on, but was wondering if there were a way to get some wood filler into the holes so I could reuse the existing screws - they match the other door and any replacement screws I have would have a slightly brighter appearance. Is there a way to inject the filler into the hole? Could I put the filler on the screw itself and see if it would harden once in?

Take a golf tee, apply glue, stick it in the knob hole, let it dry, cut it flush and try again. That usually works

Or the same thing with toothpicks or kabob sticks coated with glue. Don't have to fill the hole, yer just replacing some material.

This is assuming the hole is in the solid part near the edge.

Tennisnut,

Try taking a few toothpick and wood glue. Wedge them in the holes tight and then use a chisel to plane them flush.

Pre-drill and insert screws.

I did maint. in a apartment complex and had to get in,get done, and get out. I used the plastic inserts like you use to anchor something in cement. Drill the hole out, insert the anchor, run the screws in and your done till the next time the wife locks the old man out.
