Building a garage for auto repairs & body work. What HP/Brand opener would you recommend for at 10ft. uninsulated door. We haven't decided if installing over head or side slide doors. Is one better than anther as far as operation & endurance? Sears is having a good sale so thought we might take advantage of it.:thinker:
Thanks for any input.

Well, no openers for sliding doors unless you do fancy commercial stuff.

Sliding doors do give more overhead clearance if thats a concern., But I think there may be more maintenance and less weatherproofing, since all the track and rollers will be on the exterior and exposed to the weather.

Personally, I like Genie screw drive openers.

Are you talking about a 10' high door or 10' wide? If you are thinking about something like a 10'x7' or 10'x8' door then I would recommend a Marantec operator (they have openers with lifetime warranty on ALL parts not just the motor) or a Liftmaster operator from an authorized dealer. The Sears openers are actually made by Liftmaster BUT they cheapen them up for Sears. From Sears you'll end up getting a 3 or 4 piece rail and a cable/chain setup - not good. An opener from a Liftmaster dealer will have a 1 piece solid rail and full chain. The little things make a big difference.

Screw drive openers are o.k. but they do take a little more headroom (4") while a chain or belt drive will take a little less (2-1/2").
