Something I never thought of before....we gutted the upstairs, and will be insulating soon. I didn't pull the lath from the ceiling because of the mess...cellulose in the joist cavities, and I found it unnessessary.
Just staple the poly to the ceiling?
I'm not keen on the idea of pulling it down this late in the project...we need to get it zipped up...it's waaay below zero these nights...

Yes I believe you can simply apply the poly over the lathe and you should be all set.
