Doors and Windows - stupid question- weather seals

As subject says, this probably is a stupid quesiton but I can't figure it out so far. We bought a new place and all weather seals are crumbling to dust so I would like to replace them. in my local stores I seem to be able to find only rubber varieties, all my seals look like very short fur. All doors and windows are sliding, so rubber won't work. Question: how is this "fur" called and where do I find this stuff?

Side note: I went asking about this in a store (home depot of lowes-not sure) and they kept telling me that I'm insane and there is no such thing until I showed them something very similar on their doors. Even after that they weren't too helpful though :(

Even if you CAN find that style of weatherstrpipping, you proably don't want to try replacing it in your existing doors and windows. It SLIDES into the channels of the frame, meaning you would have to disassemble the frame to replace it. The means you would have to remove the doors and windows.

That's why you won't find it on the shelf at one of the big box stores, and you probably won't find it at many glass shops either.

So, what are my options? replacing all doors/windows? o_O

It's pile or flock weatherseal. You have to lift up on the sliding portion of the window and remove it to replace the seal. These folks should have what you need.

We have 2 shop[s in my little town that specialize it window and door stuff. Screen rebuilding, w-strip, hardware, etc. Might want to see whats around you for tips and supplies.

On shops specializing in window/door rebuilding... I've looked but so far only found shops that build new stuff. I'll try again- thanks for that tip also :)
