Hi everyone,
i have a Caddx NX-4 which until recently performed great. Recently it started giving us the 3 beeps and battery error beeping so we had to put the code in twice to get it to arm.

I thought i had the problem licked, so i went and bought a new battery, undid the cover of the unit (tamper alarm goes off...we put master code in to reset)

Now we have the status light as being "off" and the number 8 flashing.

When i put * 2 in to see the zone affected it just gives me 3 beeps...and the 8 still flashes.

I have also reset the time and date (this works, it goes into service mode as expected).

When i put the arming code in i get 3 beeps also....so i cannot arm the system (probably because the status light is still off).

Any help would be great

Cheers

James

Do you have a wireless expander or wired zone expander? The 8 flashing means that it thinks zone 8 is open. Normally the case tamper is not wired as a zone input, as the panel has tamper terminals built in, and those generate a system trouble in stead of a open zone.

What happens if you bypass zone 8? Do you get a ready light?

Hi there,
nothing is wired to zone 8 as i only have 4 sensors in the house so i'm beginning to think that the guy who wired it up perhaps wired a resistor to fail when i opened the box - mind you the tamper alarm went off there when i did so i fail to see the reason he would do that....

if he did wire something up to fail when i opened the box, where should i be looking.

Tried bypassing zone 8....nothing sadly....still no status light on either.

Any help would be much appreciated.

It would be a plunger switch on the edge of the system can. If you haven't thought of it, close the door, and try entering your code as if disarming it.

Yes, done that - in previous investigations i had opened the wall unit up and the tamper switch had tripped...alarm goes off.

I've reset everything and checked all the zones and still the "8" flashes which i believe means a zone is still unsealed. I even did a walk through which performed fine.

Could it be the box on the wall is the unsealed zone.

When i put in * 7 to reset, no beeps but also nothing happens (and the dreaded 8 still flashes).

I literally have done nothing to the system...just opened the box, replaced the battery easy...so it seemed!.

Could the installer have wired up something to trip a zone on the box to show it has been tampered with?. Could zone 8 be my installation box?.

This is a really a simple, basic, system. If there is no switch or contact on the door to the system cabinet, then you are chasing a phantom.

My gut says that these things don't spontaneously develop a zone on their own. I strongly suspect that you may have hardware that you don't realize you have.

Update:

Ok, got jack of trying to find the mysterious flashing 8...i have disconnected battery and power point to reset the system.

Can anyone advise an idiots guide to get me up and running for the NX-4....

i do know how to change date, time and how to change the master code etc...

For my unit to function properly (again!) I would like to program my Zone 1 area as my entry with a delay of 45 seconds to put my code in. No other zones require a delay so i presume everything in default mode is fine???...Please advise if i need to do anything else.

Amazingly (or not so) the flashing 8 disappeared once i pulled all the plugs!.

Anything else i should do?

Cheers

Your programming didn't go away when you powered it down. If those zones worked the way you described before, that's the way they work now. (you could disconnect power for a couple of years and the programming would not change).

wow...and great!.

However we did find our master code didnt disarm the alarm when we opened the box on the wall. We did input the default "1234" and it stopped the alarm....i will try changing the master code back to my old one and will give it a try tonight.

Cheers
