We are turning our screened in porch into a 4 season room. The slab was poured in 2 increments.....a 7' porch when the house was built and later another 7' slab was poured to enlarge the porch. The slab closest to the house is dead level, however the other slap slopes approximately 3/4" to the outside wall. I know this won't cause any difficulty in installing carpet but what would be options to level the slab? If a self-leveling compound is used, does that affect nailing the tack strips to the slab?

Yes, it does. You'll need to glue the strip instead of nailing it. I would suggest sealing the SLC with some latex add-mix such as is used in thin set for setting tile. Mix it about fifty fifty with water and paint it on where the strip will go. Then glue the strip down after the surface is dry. I normally use PL400 to glue strip and it holds very well. But don't just put down a bead and set the strip in it. You'll need to work the strip down into the glue, making sure there is full contact between the floor and the strip and a fairly thin layer of glue. Use the nails in the strip to hold it in the glue untill it sets up. If done correctly, there should be no problem with stretching off it. Also make sure the floor you're applying the SLC to is VERY clean and you'll want to seal it also to insure a good bond with the SLC. Each SLC manufacturer has their own sealing requirements so read the label and follow the directions.
