Is there a trick or jig I should know about for drilling deep (9") big (5/8") holes in concrete with a handheld hammer drill so they are perpendicular to the surface? I know some have little levels in them, but mine doesn't!

I usually use my torpedo level. If the bit is long enough, I can set it against the bit and plumb the bit that way and then move 90º around and plumb that way. start drilling and stop and check once in awhile.
You might also find a spot on the drill itself that is parallel to the bit so you can do this if the bit is not long enough to use a level on it.
