Hi,

yesterday i recieved an call from the alarm central station that there had been a family room motion detector activated and that they had lost contact wit the main keypad at my mom and dads house. so the cops were dispatched and they caught the person in the act. they intruder had brokin in a familyroom window and ran up and smashed the front entry keypad. this did not disable the alarm and it just sent the signal anyway. my parents are away for a couple of weeks so i am going to order a new keypad. but i wanta had a few more zones. the system is a DSC powerseries 632 with 10 hardwire zonwa. i believe that there is a zone expander in the panel. 6 doors, 4 motions detectors. i would like to add a new keypad and ensure it has a rf reciever. this way i can install a few glass breaks and windows contacts. is there anything special that i need to know about installing the keypad and rf recievers and any other info i may need to know.....

also my mother and father in-law have in there homes an ademco lynx panel (rather hate that) but after that have decided to test the system. there motion detector doesnt want to detect a person at all. changed batteries. it seems there has to be 5 or 6 people moving then it goes off. after 20 mins of standing there. any other advice??

Thanks abunch!!

For the keypad replacement, just power the panel down, wire it to the keypad wires, power back up, and set the clock.

Read over the posts on DSC power series panels on this forum, adding new zones to DSC is more complicated than most, but it's not difficult, just several steps involved.

_Read_your_manual_! Especially the section titled "how to program". Most peoples confusion comes from failing to understand the interface.

For the Lynx motion:

All wireless motions have a power saving circuit and go dormant if there is a lot of motion and activity, with a 3-5 minute delay between rapid activations.

The proper test is to arm the system (making sure to trip an entry/exit door so it doesn't auto-stay), and completely leave the room. Wait a few minutes, then walk in front of the motion.

Thanks MrRonFL, i appreciate the assistance, in regards to the ademco lynx, the system is about 7 or 8 years old, do these systems have the false alarm reduction feature? i tried what you recomened and still notthing. still wouldnt work waited about 15 mins still notthing.

Thanks

The fact that the motion functions, reports no troubles, and does generate alarms tells me that the highest likelyhood is that you are either arming in stay mode, or reverting to auto-stay.

This is one of those cases where if I watched you try to test the device, it would be pretty clear what's actually going on.

Otherwise, there is insufficient information to provide a meaningful answer.

like we have had faults alarms with the system there before. they have had adt come in and change the motion 3 time already in a 7 year period and its the same one again. so i have just tired it again today and made sure the door was opened and closed. then some walked in front of it after about 10 mins later and notthing. so we left it armed and after about 25 mins this time, my father in law (he is a fairly larger man) walked right in front and it went off. we walked in front of it, notthing, until we left he came down and it went off. so i dont understand why it would do this. i am starting to think that maybe just pull the whole system out (i think is aint a great system and dont like ADT anyway) and install another system.

Normally, the ademco hardware that most of these "ADT" systems is based on is pretty reliable stuff.

If you have had issues with multiple motions in the same location, either the location is an issue (some houses do have "radio dead spots" and/or places where the electronic noise in many moderne homes creates a lot of interference), or the placement in relation to the receiver is iffy, or you have a bad receiver.

You may simply have a location that is best served with a hardwired system.

okay thanks. what would cause these dead spots? any suggestions? thanks for all your help. gonna try moving it maybe. it was a free system from adt and it really dont cover there whole house. they have 3 door, all of which are covered and the motion in the family room, there house is about 2000 sqft. so if they break in upstairs they can go all over the house. thanks agian for all the help, and everything you do to help everone!!

Seriously, without going through the effort of using the RF sniffer tool the Ademco makes for their hardware there is no practical way to tell what your real issue is, so I won't try to guess.

There is a Go/No Go test built into these panels (look at the installer manual).

As I have pointed out in recent threads. All in one panels like the Lynx are really made for small houses, condos, and apartments. For a house the size you describe, it's inadequate, in my opinion.
