I need to know if I need to install a header for an egress window that is going into a poured concrete wall. I have been told we don't if it doesn't go all the way to the top or if it is under so many inches. Others say yes, but are usually talking about block foundations. Please help.

Are you going to put it in an existingopening or are you cutting a new opening.

If you are cutting a new opening and it carrying a load, you should have someone look at exactly what you have. Do it before you cut or you may have to cut twice.

Pay attention to the local requirements for the finished sill height or window opening height. Not all areas have the same height, even though the windows sizes are usually standardized for egress qualifying windows. It is usually easy to check woth a call or, better yet, a visit to the code/building office. - I have heard of people that did not check closely and ended up holding off carpeting until after the inspection and approval.

If your window is not legal, the area of the room cannot qualify as a bedroom when a buyer treis to get a mortgage.
