I am in the process of finishing up the installation of an Aprilaire 500A humidifier to a Carrier 58STA110 furnace. I need help with connections from the humidifier control to the furnace. I am using the outdoor temp sensor. It is connected to the humidifier control at the ODT terminals. The solenoid valve is connected to the "H" terminals on the humidifer control. W/G on the humidifier control connected to HUM terminal on furnace control & Cf connected to COM 24V. Can I connect R & C terminals from humidifier control to R & C on furnace control or do I need to use supplied transformer?

Yes, you can wire it to the R and C on the control board.

Finally, got it going & it runs like a champ.
Is there a way to have the humidifier operate when the blower/fan is on?

You could do it, but will need to and a transformer, and the humidifier don't work as well with room air going over the pad.. More water is wasted.
