I am trying to install the Honeywell HE360A to my Weatherking Select 90 Furnace but ran into trouble finding a suitable mounting location.

The first picture shows the view of the furnace.

The area above the AC coil area is nothing more then insulated foam board with reflective material. Even if I could make room to mount there (which would be difficult) I doubt it would hold up.

No room photo:

My best guess is to mount to furnace wall where AC coils are located.

Suggested location:

Proposed (http://www.johnkirkwood.net/proposed.htm)

Very Tight space. The walls of the furnace area where AC coils are located are double walled then there is a area with another 3rd wall that acts like a reducer to limit air flow and force air to go through AC coils. I would have to cut through all 3 walls to make this work. Ouch. I have a strong feeling this will not work and should be avoided at all cost.

Any suggestions.

I am not a professional by no means, but I wonder if the question is, "Could you mount the actual Humidifier unit on the cold air return plentum (which is to the right of your furnace)? It appears you have room there and then could run the 6" duct back to the front of the plentium just above the A coil. It seems that I have seen people mount them in both places and I personally am not sure which one the most optimal.

:alarm:I am worried about all that water on the floor, and I see rust too.. :alarm:

It don't look like the drain for the furnace is hooked up??

I would look into that and get that water fixed before you end up replacing the furnace before you know it.

I would suggest the HE260/HE220 than the HE360 since you don't have the room on the supply side.. You have the room on the return, and run the 6" bypass in front above the A/C coil.

I bought at a greatly discounted price at a going out of business sale at a home depot. I might be able to return if I drive a hour but at the price I got this unit (60% off) I would think I would spend more on travel and return/exchange (if they would accept, at time of purchase they said all sales are final).

I might just see if I can move the cold air return blocking the plentum above the AC coil and installing a sheet metal outal layer (maybe mounted to ceiling too) that I could mount the HE360A onto. Do you think that would work and do you see any problems? Thanks for your help.

The water on lower unit might have been my own fault. At one time I tripped over a pvc pipe that was elbowed off the end of where you see the water. The elbow and about 2' of pvc came off and I never replaced. It just lied on the floor and drained to a nearby drain. I just left it that way seeing that it drained to the spot anyway. I will put the elbow extended piece back on. Thank you very much for hint.

Is that return that is blocking the front of the duct, is that hooked up to anything? It don't look like it as I can tell.

Yes.

The return vent directly above the furnace that leads to the kitchen (which is mostly covered by a microwave oven stand) is hooked up. My idea was to either reroute this return vent or disable. Either would be about the same amount of work. The depth of the vent return could be reduced and that might make enoug room for me to mount the unit. It does seem to be higher then needs to be. It is mostly covered by a microwave stand anyway. Very small vent space (like 2") behind a 6 foot hight microwave stand is all that it gets anyway. I could just close off.

Your suggestion?

I would remove the duct, pan off the area, and close off the opening, and then run a 6" round pipe in place.

Thats my plan then.

Thanks for your help.
