I have some french doors that have never been stained. They are now soiled and dirty. What should I do in order to stain them.

Welcome to the forums Paul!
You need to clean up the wood. A cleaner might help but you need to finish the prep by sanding down to clean wood. Be sure to sand with the direction of the wood grain to prevent scratches that might show up in the stain. The lighter the stain you use the more important it is to get the wood good and clean.
