Hello All...newbie here, just joined. I would appreciate any advice on the best method of securing bar stool support rungs to the legs. Stools needed assembly and I used carpenter's glue but many have come loose (4 stools).
Not sure of the wood but think ash: it is hardwood in any event. Was thinking dowels but wondering if screws are the way to go.

What kind of glue?? Yellow carpenters glue(moisture resistent, TitebondIII) works well. Clamping often helps for a better, tighter joint. If you are staining the wood, wipe off any excess with a damp sponge.

Most of the chairs I've owned, fixed, or trashed have either small finish nails driven into the joints, in a direction to resist pull out, or drywall screws in non-visible areas.

If you could find some small finish screws, that might be the best of both worlds.

If you are finding the holes and dowel ends seem to be ill fitting, they make a repair item, can't think of the name, but it looks like a small rasp blade that you fold over the end of the dowel, insert some Titebond III and slam it together. The little item's "barbs" tend to hold very well, and when the Titebond III is set, you will have a good connection.
