I have a Sears (MTD) snowblower, it starts and runs fine. However when I engage the augers it stalls out.It is a model 247.886640. Basically a 5hp., 24" opening. I bought it used, the previous owner told me his roommate had replaced the belt.

Most likely needs carb cleaning and adjustment. Start by removing nut (this is main jet) that holds bowl on the carb and clean out small holes. If you have a tecumseh engine there will be a very small hole towards the top of the threads, this and fresh gas from pump. See if this corrects problem, if not post engine model and type #'s and we can give you correct carb kit to order

Also remove/clean any gunk or dirt in the bowl. It's possible that a foreign body may be jaming the impeller.G'luck
