7 year old allied 3 1/2 ton car floor jack.
jack still works but drifts when load is on it.
dont leak any oil, oil level is full.
what is wrong, and what can be done to stop this ?

your check valve is bad or the cylinder seal is bad. a good hydraulic repair shop should be able to fix, question is at what cost, how much is the jack worth? if it will get the load high enough to place jackstand safely then you might want to live with it for a while, if it leaks with any speed at all though i would not trust this jack until repaired.

can I just take it apart, to check the valve and or seal.
is there any pressure to worry about.
its not doing me any good the way it is, really dont want to pay to have it done

I repaired my floor jack by removing the pump, unscrewing the ram holder pulled out the ram and found the ram plunger to be hard from age. I could not find the part on the internet, but the local hyd shop had no problem and had the part in the next day, with minimal cost, since I did the labor part. The jack works like new. I dislike a throw away world.

What have you got to lose? It's a single acting cylinder, so there's no pressure when there's no weight on it. Changing the hydraulic piston seal is a bit of a project, providing you can get the parts in the first place. But if you do, post it here and we'll guide you through the process.

I am going to try it, I just wanted be sure there would be no pressure on the cylinder or anything when I take it apart for safety. I will try to update when I can get to the jack itself.
