Ok twice today I have heard and witnessed my Heat Pump doing something real weird.....the Heat Pump begins to defrost it stops then cycles back and forth real fast...I asssume it cycles back and forth, I can hear relay or solenoids clicking....the lights are flickering and dimming while this goes on.....also twice today the Heat Pump started in Defrost Mode....you can see from my other posts I have been having issues with the Heat Pump trying to defrost....any ideas...it is a 4-5 year old Armstrong Air model # SHP10E24A-3 ..

Sounds like a bad defrost board have you tested or replaced it yet? Why did you start a new thread it is a lot of trouble to try to piece stuff together, if you want to keep it at the top just add to it and I think it will automatically move to the top dont you know?

Its either your defrost board or the solenoid on your reversing valve is weak and is not holding in defrost mode. OR you have a loose wire/ bad connection.

Ok..took the cover off...looked at contactor..the points were burnt and pitted....removed contactor and went to HVAC store...got a replacement...reinstalled and everthing has been running fine for close to 12 hours now....crossing my fingers :o
