I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this problem but I will put it here anyway. I live in a country area and very often we have visitors in our house, like mice and rats. We don't want to kill them to get rid of them so we use live traps. However, it's seems to be getting worse. Is there a product that I can use around the perimeter of my house that will discourage them from coming in? When I trap them I take them to a large field away from any homes that is about three miles away from my house. I don't think they are finding their way back but I'm not sure. Any suggestions?

Hi Ernie,
I do understand as I can't stand to kill animals either. The best way to discourage them from coming indoors is to find all points of entry and seal them well. There are some other steps you can take such as encouraging snakes with appropriate shelter, using mint or holly around the perimeter of your home, etc. This site has some good ideas.
