Hi there,
I am German and I need to find out the recommended ceiling height for a porch.
My porch will be 49' wide and 8,2' deep and presently I am looking for the hight of the columms. My constructor said, 7,87' (=2,40m) would be enough, but I am afraid, thats very low and the porch and the attached rooms will be kind of dark. So I would like to know, what ceiling height you recommend for a for a spacious and bright porch.
Thank you very much in advance.

Keep in mind that the columns support the beams, and the porch ceiling will be near the top of the beams.

I agree with Ken. The ceiling will probably be a full 8', considering the frontal beam that will be required to hold the entire porch up. Your beam would rest on the columns, depending on the size of the beam, could conceivably be as the contractor stated. Not too good with metrics, so I am guessing a little over 7'6".
