Hello, Its my first post to this forum and am hoping that I can get some help with my Truesteam.
I self installed an IAQ thermostat on a Carrier system with a remote outdoor temp sensor and added the 9 gallon truesteam a few months later when they finally started to deliver them. I have a 2600 sqft ranch house with only the upper floors being heated.
Besides testing, this is really the first month that I have acutally run the unit for any length of time.
I run it independant and do not have the "AFS" but have it wired just like several of the posters have done it.
Besides not being completely clear on how the frost settings are supposed to effect the overall humidity %, I have some concerns:
1) It seems to take a LONG time to raise the humidity in the house. We have it set at 50% and auto with a frost factor of 5 and it will run for almost 24 hours just to raise it from 41% to 46%.
2) It never seems to attain the desired humidity or maintain what it does reach - and the unit tank is hot!
3) Yesterday it shut off until I reset it (much like another poster had observed with his)
I am concerned that I have wired it incorrectly although I am a computer engineer who is extremely comfortable with EE concepts and lots of hands-on with HVAC. The honeywell insturctions were pretty confusing. The unit is working and running both independant and with the heat but this constant running and getting no-where is becoming unsettling.
Anyone want to weigh in?

Try turning up your window frost protection. The lower the number the less humidity when it gets cold outside.

I'm in the same boat. I get no increase and it runs 24 x 7. I don't have my outdoor sensor hooked up yet either.

You may want to add more info on your house. Is your home air tight? If not then your 9 gal unit may not be able to keep up with humidity loss. Or perhaps your furnace blower is not blowing enough volume (with heat off). In this case I may have the same problem since my variable speed blower does not move much air.

Yeah, its a brand new house and its tight, good thermal windows, upgraded insulation, etc. I can provide more specifics if needed.
According to the honeywell selection guide, the 9 gallon should be enough.
The blower is set on the same speed that the heat trips on, so would you think that is not enough?
Thanks,
Brian

Do you have fireplace(s)? If so then does it have doors? If not then that would contribute to loss of humidity. Just a thought.
As for the blower speed it should be enough at regular speed.
Interesting that you live in St.Louis and so do I. Sorry for not being much help.

I looked at my humidity settings and checked the web for what is the recommended % for this area. I had it set at 50% and it just couldnt maintain it. I set it to 45% and everything seems to be stable and not running constantly.
Does anyone know of the right AFS to use on the system? I cant find the Honeywell recommended part anywhere.
Thanks,
Brian

AFS is either the A50 relay or Sail switch.

My house is old and definitely leaky in some areas. I also have 2 fireplaces. I have the 12 gallon model. I see no appreciable difference in humidity and this thing runs 24 hours a day. When it was running without the blower fan, I could feel and see the humidity. Now running with the variable speed fan, it does little if anything. I am considering putting my aprilaire 600A back in. I have no problem raising humidity with a room humidifier.
