i have found a 10 hp engine for my craftsman snow thrower and am planning to do a complete restoration to it over the winter months
i,m going to convert it to a john deere clone
since murray made the same machine for john deere (trs 26-27 series)
i can get parts cheaper at my john deere dealer
than sears
i like this machine is because it is heavy duty and has the chute controls on the dash
the chute is made of steel and has a 28 clearing path
i have removed the auger, impeller assembly
and will work on this first and the drive later
and i have some questions and will have more along the way
to me the auger/impeller is working good when i turn it by hand but haven.t tried it with the engine hooked up to it
i,m going to go ahead and replace the impeller bearing behind the pulley anyways
should i replace the 2 auger shaft bearings or not? and also, should i open up the gearbox and see how it is inside or replace the oil seals, gasket?
i here the saying "if it's not broken, don't fix it" the machine is from the mid 90's
when i get done with this machine it will be a head turner :D
it will have the JD colors and yellow flames on the side of the housing and a led amber strobe light atop a rod that i have laying around and chrome skull knobs on the controls:thumbup:
