Hello everyone,

I live in south FL and I have a 3 year old Rheem Classic 14 HP. Two nights ago, everything was functioning normally, T-stat set to heat. Last night, the A/C ran all night and I woke up at 4 am and the temp was 65 degrees inside. The tstat was set for 74. The "Aux" light was also lit up. I never noticed this before. Outside temps are in the mid 50's. Turned off unit and let it sit for a few minutes. Set the switch to "heat" and it started cooling again. It dropped a degree in a couple of minutes. Put the t-stat to EMER, at it seems to be blowing, very lightly, some warm air. In the past 30 min's, the temp has come up about 2 degrees, but only near the air handler. At the far end of the house there has been no increase in temp.
The model number on the air handler is: RCHA-60AIG. T-stat is a Simple Comfort 2210 that came with the house (house is also 3 years old). Any help would be appreciated. I don't know if this is something that can be repaired by a homeowner or should I call a tech. Thanks.

difficult to say but assuming you want to try to diagnose and repair without calling an HVAC company, then I would start with the possibility of a faulty thermostat. I think when a new system is installed, a new thermostat should always be included. And I do not recommend the cheapo stats that can be found at the big box stores as there are loads of anecdotal evidence that they can be problematic. Check with your installing dealer and see what they recommend. Make a visual and see how many wires are used with current stat. And of course be careful and cut the power supply to the complete system including stat. You might want to check all the wiring and see if any have come loose. that would be starting point for me.

Sorry for your trouble.
