I having a guy build a wood closet out of "Alder
wood".
7'X4'X24"deep.
Any advice on building this from scratch.

If you have a professional building it ask him for some input. I'm not sure what you're looking for here.

Your dimensions are not clear. If the closet is 7' wide and 24" deep, then the best you hope for is a rod with shelf above. What's the 4'? If closet is 7' high, 4' wide, and 24" deep, again, the best you can hope for is a shelf and rod and a very small closet.
