I bought a wool 5x8 area rug on ebay and I love the rug but it arrived folded in a box instead of rolled so it doesn't lie flat and there are creases where it was folded. I'm hoping it will eventually lie flat but how long that will take? It's pretty thick and heavy (1/2"). Any suggestions on how I might speed up the process? I heard that you can eliminate furniture indentations on carpet by leaving ice cubes on the indentation overnight (I've actually tried this with some success). I wonder if this would work on these creases.
Any of you carpet pros out there have any tricks you could reveal??
It's a beautiful rug -- too bad it's lying there all lumpy and sticking up on the corners! :D

Try folding in reverse to see if that removes the wrinkles. If that does not work, try steaming wrinkles and smoothing with hand.

Here;s what I've done -- I put a towel over the creases, ironed with steam iron and while it was still moist from the steam, I put books on it -- going to leave it there overnight and see what happens -- I'll keep you posted! :)

Careful with water, or steam on an area rug. A lot of them are made with jute in the construction, and will shrink up where it got wet.

:coffee: oops -- too late on that bit of advice. Fortunately no harm was done. It may have helped some, but not a lot anyway. The wrinkle is slowly but surely going away on its own -- I guess, as with most things, patience is the key. ;)
