I saw water drips coming out of the top cover over the heating element. I pulled it, and the insulation was waterlogged. I pulled that, and found a puddle of water inside. I soaked some up, and noticed drops of water all around the inside of the plastic where it meets the insulation. It was slowly leaking from somewhere behind the insulation. I saw a line of rust going down inside.

Is it time for a new heater? If so, what's the advantage of switching to gas? (They were supposed to put a gas heater in in the first place!)

Got a closer look. It's leaking from behind the fitting where the heater element screws in. Is this fixable?
