Gas and Oil Home Heating Furnaces - have to blow at pilot to catch rest of ignition

We have a propane heater, and everytime it kicks off and has to kick back on, the pilot will light but nothing else. We have figured out that if you just blow the flame towards the rest of the ignitor (sorry I don't know terms very well) then the rest will light and we are good to go until it turns off and back on again. Any suggestions on what it could be or how to fix it? It sucks having to get up in the middle of the night to have to get it working. Thanks for any help!

The flame on the pilot shoud be touching the probe right beside the pilot. If its not then you propbaly have a dirty pilot. If the pilot was off during the summer, there could be dust inside the pilot orfice. you can take apart and blow it out. Do not use anything to open the hold bigger. Big mistake. You can take the orfice out and look through it at a light to determine of it is clogged a little. Sometimes small spiders build nest in there when the pilot is off during the summer. The other option after that is you can increase the flame on just the pilot at the gas valve. The is a small screw with a cap on it. remove the cap and there is a small screw adjustment. Look on the gas valve for Pil Adj. only make small adjustments

i think he means the track that spreads the flame from the pilot along the header to light the other chambers........wire brush the top of the header...are you hearing BOOMS every once and awhile:alarm: :eek: :madhell:....get it check by service don't keep bandaiding it by blowing into it.when the gas valve opens that should be a smooth roll to all the chambers to light.
