This may seem like a silly question. I recently bought an old clawfoot tub and had it refinished. I am now shopping for the hardware. Everything makes sence to me, except the drain size. If I measure the drain hole, it is 2", but while shopping, everything I see is for 1 1/2 or 1 3/8. What am I doing wrong, or what do I need to be looking for?

I have never had to measure one because they have always been the same. Most new tubs today use a 1 1/2" tub waste and overflow drain with the exception of older tub on legs brands which were 1 3/8" waste and overflow type drains. If it is a shower drain, the drain is designed in most cases for a 2" shower drain. The drainholes are larger than the sizes to accommodate the inside pipe sizes.
