I have replaced several bulbs with CFLs, and I like the way they are working.
I have recessed lights in another room. ( All 7 are on the same circuit, but with 3 switches/dimmers, controlling 3, 2, and 2 lights, respectively.) I have been looking into replacing some of these bulbs with dimmable CFLs.
Here's the problem:
The lady of the house is an avid reader, but HATES the light put out by the CFLs. She doesn't mind replacing 4 of the 7 lights-just not the 3 where she reads.
When I went to buy the dimmable CFLS, I saw on the box a notice that said "Do not put dimmable CFLs and incandesant bulbs on the same circuit "
The lights in question are controlled by the same circuit breaker, but as noted above, on separate switches.
My questions: What is the reason for this warning?
and: would the situation I have (same circuit, but different switches) be an acceptable use for the CFLS?
I guess that I'm also asking if my interpretation of the word "circuit" is correct for this situation?/
Thanks,
Mike

I think you are correct, if I'm reading you right, that they are concerned about the lights on a given switch, not all of the lights on a breaker. So, if the switch/dimmer is controlling three or four bulbs, make them all CFL's or all incandescent. The issue of mixing bulbs on a dimmer is a new one for me, so thanks. Let's see what others have to say.
