We have 3 toilets in our house; they're stacked vertically on the same drainpipe (two back-to-back on the upper floor, one on the lower floor). The problem is with the "top" toilet on the upper floor. After flushing, the bowl fills to a "normal" level, then slowly, over about 15 minutes, drains to a very low level. We've snaked the pipe, but can't find any obstruction. We've checked the roof vent, but it seems clear. This started about two months ago.

Can anyone offer any suggestions? Thanks!

Three things come to mind on this:

1. There is a venting problem, probably a plug rather than a design problem because it started happening recently, and nothing had been done to the plumbing to cause it.
is there a branch vent that you may have missed checking that serves the toilets?

2. Another possibility is a crack in the toilet bowl allowing water to leak into the drain.

3. Is there debris hanging up in the trap such as a rag or paper that is not causing a blockage but has a "wick" effect which allows water to be drawn out of the bowl?
