Designing Kitchens and Bathrooms - Must replace tile around tub / please help

I am forced to deal with the tile around my tub. We replaced the faucet & the tile just fell off around it. Behind that, to our horror, the old dry wall was rotted away & simply crumbled. I need to know what to replace the drywall with & what is the best (inexpensive, easy to install, without looking too cheap & cheesy)wall covering solution to use. We're going to take down all the tile & wall board around the tub. The tile was old & ugly anyway. ...i mean really ugly so it's really a good thing :wall:

"Best" and "cheap" may not be the best terms to use together.

They have plastic type shower stall walls that you can get at home centers or special order.

Would you want to retile? It's not very difficult....

Do NOT use Greenboard or Greyboard (Thinsheild). Although these products are sold as being water resistant, they certainly are not water proof, and will lead to mold problems down the road. Use a cement-board type product, such as Perma Base or Durrock. Seal any seams with Thin-set or paint-on waterproofing.
