Have indirect-fired gas water heater in garage, supply line 1/2" PEXa CL T (plastic) runs 30' L through cold attic (vented), no basement in one story house. Need pipe insulation advice.
Winter night time temp can approach 0 degrees (F), is heat tape necessary or is foam insulation sufficient? The return line (hot, also 1/2" PEXa) runs 30' L in attic. Lines are exposed above ceiling joists and can't tuck them in where roll insulation is. Concerned since water not running that often for single occupant. Water heater is an Amtrol boilermate 41 gal.

Get the ratings for the different types of insulation. Don't depend on opinions.
