I just purchased everything I need to clean my fireplace flue. The problem I am facing now is I need to remove the damper plate to get the brush up the flue. How is this done?

Everything I have read says there are cotter pins holding it but as I look up at it I dont see any. It looks like there are pins welded onto the plate that go thru the flue that the plate hinges on.

Anyone have any suggestions?

This is on a Majestic BR36I (although that may not matter).

Some dampers are not removable. Clean everything you can reach from the top down. Then get one of those small 6" round brushes (or whatever size you need) and clean what you can reach up thru the damper.

The brush I have is a stiff poly brush. I know when I had it done professionally the guy used a poly brush and pushed it thru the damper. Maybe all I need is a softer brush. I would like to do it from the bottom down since I am weary about getting on my 2 story roof.
