My furnace is not working correctly any help would be greatly appreciated. Heres what it does:

It does not start on own most of the time but when I turn thermostat down then turn it back up the furnaces starts running then an element thing lights up for about a minute, fire blows over it into furnace for about 10 seconds, stops for about 20 seconds, repeats 3 times and then stops. I can then open and close the switch, that should not normally ever move when the door is actually closed, then the blower will come on and blow the semi warm air through the house. then it will run through the same cycle and stoip again. It didn't do this for the first couple of weeks the furnace was on but now is starting again, did this last year on and off too. Any help would be wonderful.
Thanks

If you have one of those flame sensor rods, I would try cleaning that probe end up first. A DIY job. If a single thin wire leads in towards the combustion chamber, that is what is attached. They are mounted usually with one screw. Undo that screw and pull it out. Then polish up that rod with fine steel wool or a scotchbrite pad.

This sounds like the problem that I am having. I have had someone come out and clean the burners but the problem is still present.

Did they do anything to the flame sensor?
You can clean it yourself.

Hmm, same problem that I posted about 30mins before you did: http://forum.doityourself.com/gas-oil-heating-furnaces/368459-carrier-furnace-shuts-down-after-ignition.html I cleaned the “flame sensor” with steel wool, as recommended, but still has the same problem.

Yes they cleaned the flame sensor and burners and I replaced the t-stat and motor capacitor. I have a thread that explains all of my problems that I can't get to the bottom of. I thank each of you for your insight.
