I have glass doors on my wood burning fireplace. Is it ok to close them while a fire is burning? fire seems to burn just as well opened or closed.

It's certainly safer when doors are closed. If you have a screen or spark arrester, doors can be left open for full benefit of radiant heat.

I've been looking at doors and have been told not to burn w/ them closed... But I see many references to burning closed and the manufactures hint at it too...:madhell:

Milemaker, you have made multiple posts re: burning with glass doors closed and cited Stoll as a manufacturer.
Read and follow manufacturer's instructions. For instance, according to Stoll, "Stoll Fireplace Glass Doors are designed to be used with the glass doors open under most circumstances when the fire is burning. Maximum radiant heat from your fuel will be realized with the doors open. The screen must be kept closed at all times when a fire is burning except when loading or maintaining the fire.
Stoll Fireplace Glass Doors used in combination with Gas Logs must have the glass doors open and the screens closed when the gas logs are in operation to ensure adequate air flow to the gas logs. Closing the glass doors while a gas log is in operation could overheat the gas logs and damage the log set’s components. Read and follow all instructions provided by the gas log manufacturer." http://www.stollfireplaceinc.com/pdf...20Door-Red.pdf (http://www.stollfireplaceinc.com/pdf_instructions/Instructions-Regular%20Door-Red.pdf)
Most folks don't close doors until the fire begins to die down. Most fireplace doors also have a screen to prevent sparks when doors are open.
