We have a rather lengthy aluminum segment that connects our pool cage to our house. It provides excellent cover for the patio area. However, the ceiling portion is definitely showing its' age. What can we do, besides paint, to spruce it up?

Look into purchasing some aluminum wheel cleaner, such as what you would use for aluminum rims. Scrub and rinse. Repeat if needed. Depending on how nice you want it to look, once it's clean, you could follow with aluminum polish and a buffer.

Not wanting to butt in, but are you sure it is aluminum? Is it painted, now? If so, it may be steel. Could you post a couple of pix on a site such as photobucket.com and copy/paste the HTML code to a reply post. That way we can see what you see.

Whether it's aluminum (probably) or steel, it's most likely the paint that is showing it's age. Repainting it is certainly one option, and would be a lot less expensive than replacing parts.
