Electric water heater.Water is getting scalding hot. Reset button finally tripped. Reset, turned down the thermostat water is scalding hot again. I'm thinking the thermostat is bad. What you guys think?

There are 2 thermostats - one under each cover. Did you adjust both of them to the same temp?

This is a single element water heater. I only turned down one thermostat.
