We have a plan with terminix for carpenter ants and other pest(so far doing well winning the battle). But, they just came by to do a termite inspection and we tested positive:(

Looks like they are in a couple nearby stumps and in the fascia of our garage. Main part of the house looks to be currently safe.

Either way they are in the garage and close to the house. The quote for the preventive treatment shocked me a bit.

Does $1350 sound reasonable and that is with a 20% discount for being a current customer?? They said the go by square footage of house ours is 1700. Also after the first year it is $200 per year for guarentee that we stay protected.

I know i should get quotes from couple other companies, but we already do business with terminix and they do seem to be very knowledgeable, local, and friendly.

Thanks!

Seems kind of high to me, but they may be basing somewhat on what the labor involved. Foundation type, soil type, etc. I'm sure the price has gone up since I had mine treated back in VA (2300 sf 2 story, with attached garage and 1200 sf of deck). That was about $800-900 for initial treatment incl drilling into the foundation.

Depending on where you live, have you considered having the affected areas treated and using the baiting system instead? Did they offer that option? I think the yearly cost was close to the same amount and it was very effective in my old place. I just didn't like the idea of pumping chemicals in every few years.

The only treatment that I was told about would be to dig 6 inches into the ground and spray. Their brouchure does discuss baiting systems though the inspector did not mention any details.

I'm still reading the contract, but it appears for residential single homes they will cover cost/labor in full for any future damage. Makes we wonder how do you know if it is past or new damage...

Trenching and drenching? Boy, I thought that was pretty old school. Maybe it depends on the soil in your area (which is???). They used a rod and drove it into the ground all around the foundation (like a giant marinade injector) and then drilled into the block and brick and injected there when I had it done.

Things may have changed, as I said. We don't have termites in my area now. 2 local companies have told me the same thing, and none of the neighbors have treatment plans, so I guess I'm safe (for now).

I think I'd check around with a few other reputable companies and see how they stack up, if I were in your position.

I don't know what types of soil there are(complete noob on lawncare)

I can tell you I have a bunch of pine trees that lead to acidic soil causing my yard to be more moss and mushrooms than grass.

That is next years project:)

I'm going to get a quote Monday from Orkin.

FYI

Orkin said it would be in the $1600 range, but stated that they treat the inside as well. Terminix never said anything about the inside. Not sure i would won't the inside treated anyways...

They also offered bait system which would be about $1300-1400. The big difference is the annual maintanence the bait system is $396 a year compared to $200 for the chemicals.

Wow...I guess things have skyrocketed. Where do you live? Must be CA or NY? lol

I know EPA regs have prob gotten tougher, but when I switched from treatment to bait, there was no charge for the install. They installed about hmmm maybe 14-16 stations around the perimeter, and checked them monthly if any activity was detected, quarterly if there wasn't. I had no swarmers or problems after the 1st year.

Remember, when I started the service it was prob about '99 or '00. The yearly cost was more since they did the monitoring more often, instead of just a yearly inspection. But IIRC it was more like $300 vs $200. Worth it to me since it eliminated the colonies, not just prevented them from coming in the structure. The neighbors prob weren't happy since they all moved into their yards...lol.
