I'm going be installing a tub surround and there are conflicting instructions as to the adhesive. The surround manufacturer say to use a 1/4 inch trowel over the whole area, peel back and then stick. The adhesive tube says draw a bead of a particular size and pattern then stick, hold, done.

Who do I listen to?

Personally, I would go with what the manufacturer says, after all they know best about thier product, however, I am not a professional.

Which manufacturer? The one that made the glue or the one that made the surround?

Perhaps if the instructions from each manufacturer are different, then you dont have the right adhesive. What adhesive does the manufacturer of the surround suggest. I'd go with there instructions.

Adhesive in a tube is usually applied in a bead. Adhesives in a bucket are usually applied with a trowel. Do you have the right adhesive?:)

The instructions for the surround don't make mention of a specific adhesive.

After talking with a buddy about it, I'm just gonna follow the instructions that come with the glue. The tub surround folks know the business of forming plastic to a mold, while the folks at Liquid Nails know how to make things stick to each other.

I'm gonna trust them.

Liquid nails makes a fiberglass reinforced plastic panel adhesive. It comes in a 1 gallon can and is spread with a trowel.

You could also call the manufacturer of the suround panels to see what adhesive they recommend.
