Recently my wife washed a throw rug in our GE heavy duty washer model # WWA8324GBL. Apparently, the load caused the agitator to lift off the splined spindle. I can push it back down but soon after starting another load of clothes, it rises enough so that it's no longer engaged with the splines. I lifte the agitator completely off and looked at the rubber agitator coupling looked to be in good shape with uniform grooves. It's just that the agitator won't stay down and when I reinstalled it, there was about an inch gap between the bottom of the agitator and the bottom of the tub. I looked at a diagram of the parts and can't tell how the agitator is fastened to the spindle. Appreciate any help.
Best regards,
Brad

Have not run across your problem but here is a link to your machine GE | Model #WWA8324GAL | GE WASHERS | TUB/BASKET AND AGITATOR | SearsPartsDirect.com from Sears (http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/retrieveSubComponentPartsAction.action?modelNumber=WWA8324GAL&productCategoryId=0153200&brandId=0432&modelName=GE%20WASHERS&diagramPageId=00009&componentDescription=TUB/BASKET%20AND%20AGITATOR&documentId=E2101699&backToLink=Return%20to%20Sub%20Components%20list)

Part 303 is the rubber coupler that sits on top of the transmission spindle. The agitator sits atop that, but there doesn,t appear to a way the agitator is actually fastened to the coupler.
Thanks for the link,

Obviously yours no longer has something fit tight the way it used to. With agitators without shafts/nuts or set screws holding them down, they rely on a tight fit or something inside that causes them to sort of snap-lock in place. If it relies on snap-locking, then you have something that can't really be fixed. The best you can do is either buy some new part (perhaps a new agitator?), or get creative and try to use some material that would make a friction fit become tighter. Perhaps you could apply silicone caulk, slip the agitator back over it and let it set up. If you ever needed to remove the agitator it would probably be able to pry off if you do not overcaulk it too much. Many of those agitators that snap on have to pried off anyway. I just did one the other day. I yanked and yanked and it would not come off. So I got out my 'wonder bar'. You can always protect the tub bottom surface from scratching/chipping if need be.
