I am wanting to add a backsplash to the wall behind my free standing stove. Does anyone have any ideas, other than tile, wall paper or paint? I'm trying to make it out of something unique, without using any of the above mentioned items. Thanks for any help you can give!

Decorating ideas are limited my imagination and budget. There are metal backsplashes, in nearly all durable metals, copper, stainless steel, etc., etc. Tile does not have to be a bunch of blocks installed together, it can be a work of art, again imagination. Wallpaper/paint would not be among my choices, too much maintenance, too blah. Fortunately, imagination and budget do not have to conflict. IMHO, tile is one of the most versatile materials, it comes in all shapes, color sizes, configurations, etc. For really good examples, do not go to a big box store. Seek out tile suppliers in your area.

Hi dejfan,
For something really different, I'd try mosaic. Is easy to clean, and you can choose ypur own design. You can contract a company, or you can buy a kit and Do It Yourself :D

Tile comes in all different materials, colors, textures, shapes and sizes so you can get as creative and unique as you like. If properly installed and sealed, it'll also clean up easy and be very durable.:)

Another creative option that we have done is use a quartz based stone, such as Silestone or Cambria. You can have a piece customized for your particular wall, and you can also get a thinner piece of material, which will save you a little bit of money. Anyway, something you might want to think about. Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Rob

Depending on your kitchen design, what about metal? There are some really cool metal tiles that have a hammered or aged look -- copper, stainless steel, etc. They come in sheets or 12 inch tiles (probably smaller, too).

Stainless steel, may be. But other metals are a bad idea for a kitchen backsplash--> the metal + heat may produce contaminating fumes!!
