Well here is the problem....First my AC unit wasn't blowing cold air well. Cold air coming out of vents but just sort of leaking out of vents, not blowing, unless I ran the blower for a few hours and then turned the AC unit back on. I figured that my coils needed to be cleaned but cold weather was coming in for a few days and my mother was coming in to visit so I put off cleaning them myself. :thinker:Then the cold weather came and I turned on the heat. The heat didn't seem to work very well either. Now it is hot again and the AC is blowing but no cold air. I can't seem to figure this one out.

OK, I am confused.

You saying when the t-stat calls for cool, you don't have any air blowing out unless you turn the fan switch to ON?

When you turn the heat on, you have air blowing?

What do you have, heat pump or gas heat?

Before it would blow cool and then freeze up and not much air would come out of the vents. Now it seems that when the heat or the AC are on, it just blows luke cool (AC) or luke warm (heat) air. I have electric heat. I hope that helps clear up the situation. I am definitely not a professional in any way and will most likely call a licensed AC guy but I just want to have some clue of what might be the cause so I am not robbed blind when a service rep does come by. Thanks so much for your time.

If the coil freeze up on you, it may be a sign of dirty coil.

But is your heat electric only? Or do you have a heat pump with electric heat back up?

How's your air filter?

at the stat put the FAN in the ON position and go to the furnace and see how the fan is,,,should be running hi speed check the vents with no heat or cooling running.clean filter...rounds clean on squirrel cage on fan.if it is running real slow shut the power off on the side and touch the fan body if it is hot the motor might be on its way out...does it free spin with no power on it?
